Major Injuries in Brentwood Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood car accident lawyer, and I want to inform you of yet another serious car accident on Vasco Road in Brentwood over the weekend.
Details of the Accident
On 6 May, two cars collided at the intersection of Vasco Road and Walnut Boulevard in Brentwood. At approximately 2:40 p.m., a silver sedan struck the side of a van crossing the intersection in what is commonly referred to as a “T-bone” style of accident.
The Brentwood Police Department and the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District both responded to the accident. Upon arrival, they discovered that one person involved in the accident sustained major injuries. This person was transported to a local hospital in a helicopter.
Two other people also sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital in ambulances. The final person involved in the accident reportedly sustained injuries, but declined transport to the hospital.
About the Major Injuries Sustained
The authorities have not released specific information about the injuries sustained in the accident, but our experience as Brentwood personal injury lawyers provide a rough outline of the likely injuries.
The person who sustained the most severe injuries likely bore the brunt of the initial crash, either at the front of the grey sedan or within the van. Common injuries sustained in these types of collisions include massive internal injuries, including chest trauma and abdominal trauma. Back and spinal cord injuries are also common in these types of accidents.
About the Other Injuries in the Accident
Most commonly, people involved in a crash sustain cervical strain (whiplash) injuries from the side-to-side motion of the vehicles engaged in the crash.
Cause of the Accident
As is common with car accidents in the area, the authorities have not released an official cause of the accident. However, based on our experience as Brentwood car accident lawyers, the “T-bone” style of the accident indicates that someone failed to yield in an intersection. This failure to yield then enabled a collision.
Many different factors may cause a motorist to fail to yield. The most common reason, however, is that the driver is distracted. While the authorities have not indicated whether either driver was distracted at the time of accident, it is highly likely that at least one of the drivers involved in the accident was not paying full attention to the road.
Problems with Vasco Road
This was one of many accident on Vasco Road. In 2017 alone, several people have already died on Vasco Road in Brentwood. The high rate of accidents is caused by the general design of the road and people’s tendency to speed on it. Vasco is often used as a shortcut by locals, but it has become highly congested in the last few years. This is recipe for disaster that has unfortunately cost many people their lives.
Government Liability in Car Accidents
The government has a responsibility to ensure its roads are reasonably safe. Failure to do so is considered negligence. In these cases, the government may be liable for damages in an accident. A Brentwood personal injury attorney can help you determine if this applies to you.
