Accident on the U.S. 50 Cloverleaf Results in Rollover
A major injury was reported in Rancho Cordova when a vehicle overturned on May 19. The accident was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 2:37 in the afternoon along westbound U.S. 50 at the Bradshaw Road off-ramp. The vehicle overturned on the cloverleaf. A good Samaritan at the scene attempted to remove the driver from the overturned vehicle but was unsuccessful.
Drunk Driving Suspected as Cause of Rollover
A unit with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived a few minutes later to extract the driver, who was then transported to a hospital. According to the CHP report, drunk driving was suspected as a factor that led to the collision. Toxicology was notified to administer a test to determine this. The accident is being investigated by authorities.
Drunk Driving and a Major Injury Accident
Drunk drivers were responsible for more than 10,000 traffic fatalities in 2019 alone, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Those who are drunk driving have much slower reflexes and exhibit poor reasoning skills as well as having their vision affected. When you are injured by a drunk driver, you can claim fair compensation for those injuries with the help of an injury attorney.
Causes of a Rollover Accident
Rollovers frequently occur in vehicles that are top-heavy such as SUVs, light trucks, and vans. They can occur in any vehicle if the right circumstances are present. Reasons for a rollover include:
- Going off the roadway onto a soft shoulder or into a guardrail can lead to a major injury rollover crash.
- A vehicle that is struck in the side by another larger and heavier car can experience a rollover.
- Taking a turn too fast can lead to a rollover.
- Poor road maintenance such as potholes or upheavals can lead to this type of accident.
- A defective tire that blows out on the highway may cause a rollover. When a defective auto part is the cause of an accident injury, the manufacturer and others in the production line may be held accountable through a product liability lawsuit.
Roof Crush Danger During a Rollover
In some vehicles, roof crush occurs during a rollover. This happens when the upper frame of the vehicle and roof aren’t strong enough to support the weight of the car’s body in a rollover. It causes the weight of the vehicle’s body to crush down on the occupants inside.
Auto manufacturers are required to construct their vehicles so that the upper part can support 3.5 times the weight of the car. Unfortunately, some manufacturers don’t comply with this requirement. If roof crush is determined by our engineers to have occurred and increased or caused our client’s injuries, the auto manufacturer and others in the production line can be held liable. Any time a vehicle is involved in an injury accident, it is important to retain it, so it can be checked for auto defects and signs of roof crush.
