Major Injury Crash in Redding

A major injury crash in Redding sent two people to the hospital on Friday, May 15, 2020. According to information from the Redding Police Department (RPD), this accident involved two vehicles and happened in the morning on a highway within the city. Police also indicated that one of the hospitalized individuals suffered major injuries during the accident.

Crash Information

The collision took place at about 5:00 p.m. on Highway 273 near the intersection of Westwood Avenue on the southern side of the city. Police indicated that a 26-year-old man was driving eastbound on Westwood in a Ford Mustang when he accelerated into a right-hand turn in order to enter southbound 273.

As the Mustang navigated the intersection, the driver apparently lost control of his vehicle, which drifted into northbound highway lanes. As the Ford exited the intersection, it collided head-on with a northbound Chrysler 300. The force of the crash reportedly caused the Mustang to overturn.

Response

When emergency officials reached the crash scene, they found the Ford driver had been severely injured. The young man was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the Shasta Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. The Chrysler driver, who has been identified as a 77-year-old woman from Redding, was discovered with minor trauma and was taken to the Mercy Medical Center for care. Specific details about the injuries sustained during the accident have not been made available.

Investigation

Police closed the northbound side of Highway 273 at the Girvan Road intersection while response and preliminary investigations of the crash scene were conducted. Police indicated that they don’t suspect alcohol or drugs as factors of this crash. However, no likely factors have been reported.

Rollover Accidents and Injuries

Rollover accidents are much more likely than other types of collisions to result in serious or even fatal injuries. NHTSA data shows that around one out of every ten deadly accidents is a rollover, while only about two percent of all US car accidents involve an overturned vehicle.

A key factor in the danger of rollover accidents is unstable vehicle roofs. In many cases, auto manufacturers don’t properly construct roofs, meaning that they are liable to give way during a rollover. If a roof crushes in a crash, it’s likely to cause injuries to passengers and drivers. Because these companies have a duty to ensure their products are reasonably safe, they are often liable to pay for losses related to collisions involving roof crush injuries.

Calling an Attorney

The effects of a serious accident injury can be difficult to deal with. Not only is recovering from an injury a painful and stressful process, but paying for the necessary medical care can be difficult, especially in cases where being injured affects your ability to work. To learn about how you can obtain compensation for these damages and other losses related to your accident, the best thing to do is to speak personally with a Redding personal injury lawyer as soon as you are able to.
