Major Injury Crash Near Patterson

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto accident lawyer. A single vehicle crash occurred near Patterson during the late afternoon hours of Saturday, July 15, 2017. Unfortunately, the accident caused one victim to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A man was driving his tan Hyundai Elantra westbound along West Main Avenue at about 5:30 pm. For unknown reasons, the man allegedly allowed his vehicle to veer off the roadway and collide with a bridge guardrail. Approximately 50-feet of vertical wooden posts that provide structural balance for the barrier received damage from the vehicle. The horizontal metal rail also punctured through the front windshield of the Hyundai and continued out through the rear window. The vehicle came to a stop with the guardrail still impaled through the car.

Was Anybody Injured?

The motorist of the Hyundai Elantra was the only occupant in the car. The guardrail allegedly struck the head of the driver, causing him to suffer major lacerations. The victim was taken to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries.

What Caused the Crash?

It is still too early to rule out a cause of the crash. A Traffic Collision Report generally takes one to two weeks to be processed. Sometimes police reports can contain errors as to liability. Contact an experienced injury lawyer for assistance in determining liability.

Symptoms to Note After a Head Injury

Head injuries, also known as Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), are among the most devastating events a family can experience. These injuries usually occur in injury accidents, particularly automobile accidents. The impact from this type of injury to a loved one is obvious and can produce a long-term effect on you and the injured person that may last a lifetime.

According to the Mayo Clinic, some of the symptoms of a mild TBI include:

  • A state of disorientation or confusion
  • Changes in mood
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling depressed or anxious
  • Headache
  • Loss of consciousness (lasting from a few seconds or even up to a few minutes)
  • Memory problems
  • Mood Swings
  • Nausea

A person who has suffered a more severe head or brain injury may show some of the same symptoms listed above and may face a more difficult time recovering. Some of the notable symptoms of a serious TBI include the following:

  • Aggressiveness, agitation and other uncharacteristic behaviors
  • Clear fluids coming from the nose or ears
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • Continuous headache that worsens over time
  • Deep confusion
  • Loss of balance and coordination
  • Loss of consciousness for minutes or even hours
  • Repeated vomiting
  • Slurred speech

If you or a family member has experienced some of the symptoms listed above, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
