Accident at Norris Avenue Intersection Leaves One Woman Injured
A major injury was reported in Sacramento on December 20 following a two-vehicle crash. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Norris and Whitney avenues in the Arden-Arcade area, according to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess trauma and transported one person to a nearby hospital with major injuries.
Investigation Being Conducted Into Major Injury Accident
At least one of the vehicles involved in the major injury accident had to be removed by a tow truck. Investigators with the CHP are conducting a study of the crash to determine how it happened. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.
Intersection Accidents
Intersections are not only needed to control traffic flow but are described as one of the most dangerous areas a driver will face. This is due to their complexity and the confluence of motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. One of the chief dangers lies with drivers who refuse to obey a red light.
This interferes with the rules of the intersection to such an extent that motorists cannot trust other drivers. It also places a burden on pedestrians who would like to think that crosswalks protect them from danger and that standing or sitting on the sidewalk is safe.
Driver Negligence and Intersection Accidents
Driver negligence in these cases points to the motorist feeling that the road belongs to them. We all share the road with others and are responsible for their safety. By breaching this obligation, the negligent driver places himself or herself in a position of liability for the injured party’s financial losses relative to the accident.
Major Injury in an Intersection Accident
Forty percent of all major injury accidents occur in an intersection, as do 20 percent of all fatalities. Some of the most common major injuries are:
- Cervical strain: Depending on the direction of the impact, some of the occupants of a vehicle may develop cervical strain, which is also referred to as whiplash. While many recover within a month or two, some individuals still exhibit symptoms a year or two after the accident.
- Abdominal trauma: An impact to the abdomen may cause catastrophic injuries that are not always apparent initially. That is because major abdominal blood vessels or organs take some time to cause pain or lower blood pressure. On occasion, people are released from the emergency room and need to return because of this delay.
- Head injury: One of the most serious injuries in terms of disability occurs when trauma to the brain is involved. Depending on the type of injury, the person may lose the ability to live and act independently.
Investigation of a Major Injury Accident
At our firm, our investigative team is sent to the site of the accident. Once they are there, they examine the area, use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability, and interview witnesses who saw the collision in real-time. They may also examine traffic lights to see if they are working properly. In the event they are not, the city or state government in charge of traffic light maintenance may be included in a car accident claim.
Once this information is garnered, our investigators hand it over to our injury attorneys. This is a necessary element in resolving the claim successfully, and our legal team uses it to build a robust case for our clients.
