Major Injury Traffic Crash in Sacramento
A major injury traffic crash happened along the Capital City Freeway in Sacramento on March 1, when three vehicles collided. The accident occurred at about 1:40 in the afternoon in the southbound lanes just south of the El Camino Avenue eastbound on-ramp. The accident was initially reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as a single vehicle crash when a Chevy Impala struck the center divide. The report was amended to say two or three other vehicles were left blocking the other lanes. According to one witness, the accident was caused by several motorcyclists who were riding recklessly.
Further Details of the Accident
Emergency personnel with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene of the major injury traffic crash and transported one individual to UC Davis Medical Center. The identity and condition of that individual have not been released. The CHP is investigating the accident to determine how it occurred. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision.
Accidents Caused by Negligence
When a major injury traffic crash has been caused by the actions of a negligent person or entity, the injured person may claim personal injury damages. This will pay for their medical expenses, lost time away from work and for their pain and suffering. For those whose injuries are permanent or expected to continue into the future, those expenses are covered also. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help and has valuable advice to offer.
What a Personal Injury Lawyer Does
A seasoned injury lawyer can answer your questions following a major injury traffic crash, and tell you if you have a case. The lawyer can review the police report, examine witnesses and other information and deal with the insurance company for you to obtain the compensation you need. If that is unsuccessful, the lawyer can conduct their own investigation using technologies such as accident reconstruction to present a strong case for compensation in civil court.
Reckless Driving as a Cause of Accidents
Reckless driving is a major cause of accidents and happens when a motorist does not exhibit the duty of care toward others that they should. In California, it is a crime that can result in fines or jail time. Even if the solo driver is the only one injured, he or she can still potentially face jail and fines. Some of the actions that can result in a reckless driving charge include:
- Running a red light while speeding
- Driving the wrong way on a road
- Driving on a sidewalk
- Cutting in and out of traffic and other forms of reckless driving
- Using excess speed in an area that is crowded
- Ignoring stop signs
- Driving too fast for weather conditions
