Major Injury Truck Collision on SR-165

Officials in Merced County reported a major injury truck collision on SR-165 on the afternoon of Saturday, August 20, 2022. The big rig crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. on State Route 165 and Williams Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Details on the Major Injury Truck Collision on SR-165 in Merced County

A preliminary report revealed that a 20-year-old Atwater woman was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado headed eastbound on Williams Avenue. At the same time, a 2015 Freightliner was traveling southbound on SR-165. Both vehicles allegedly collided at the intersection, causing the big rig to overturn and spill grapes across State Route 165.

The truck driver, a 56-year-old El Centro man, was uninjured in the collision. The Chevrolet driver was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto to treat serious injuries, CHP traffic officers reported. The area was shut down for approximately three hours for officials to investigate and clear the crash site. Additional information on the incident was not immediately available.

What are the Common Reasons for Big Rig Crashes?

State and federal safety regulations are in place for the trucking industry. However, crashes may occur at an alarming rate. Some of the most common causes of tractor-trailer collisions include:

  • Truck driver negligence
  • Poor big rig maintenance
  • Semi-truck overloading
  • Inclement weather conditions
  • Violations of Hours of Service (HOS)

If you are unsure of the cause of your 18-wheeler collision, an accident attorney may conduct an independent investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

How a Truck Accident Lawyer Can Help

A big rig crash may be a life-altering event because of the resulting injuries and losses. When the incident was the result of someone else’s negligence, whether that be a negligent truck driver, trucking company, or another party, an injured party may be entitled to reimbursement for damages incurred. While California law allows injured parties to file and bring such a claim forward, it is recommended to retain legal counsel. That is because the legal process may be complicated when difficult insurers are involved.

As an injured party, you can seek the assistance of an experienced Merced truck accident lawyer if you find yourself in this situation. Your attorney will help you seek financial compensation for your injuries and losses incurred. Depending on the facts and circumstances of the claim, your lawyer will need to gather evidence, determine the value of the resulting damages, file a claim on your behalf, and negotiate with the insurance company for a reasonable settlement agreement.

Unlike the other side, your injury attorney will offer compassionate and skilled legal counsel and protect your best interests.
