Man Identified in Fairfield Crash
The Solano County Sheriff’s Department released the identity of a man who lost his life in a local car accident in Fairfield. The man was identified as Chris McKinney, a 62-year-old resident of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. McKinney tragically passed away during the early morning on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. According to officers of the Fairfield Police Department (FPD), the collision remains under investigation. I would like to express my sympathy to Mr. McKinney’s loved ones while they are mourning the loss of their family member and friend.
Crash Details
The accident took place at about 12:49 a.m. on Highway 12 within Fairfield city limits. Details about how the accident happened have not been reported. Available reports stated that police found two crashed vehicles on the westbound side of Highway 12 close to the Beck Avenue off-ramp. Officers identified the vehicles as a sedan and an SUV. Reports stated that sedan caught fire during the incident and was burning when police located the vehicles.
An FPD officer and passing civilian attempted to douse the flames and remove the two occupants of the sedan, an unidentified driver and McKinney. They were able to rescue the driver of the vehicle. However, McKinney could not be saved and died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle reportedly sustained severe trauma and was taken to a hospital.
Investigation
As police continue their investigation of the accident, FPD has asked for public assistance. Anybody who has information about the incident is asked to contact FPD’s Traffic Unit at (707) 428-7524.
Wrongful Death
The majority of car accidents are caused by negligence. This means that the accident could have been avoided if not for the reckless actions of one or more people. Because fatal accidents can have serious emotional and financial consequences for families and dependents, negligent parties can be held responsible for their actions. Those who’ve lost a loved one to a car accident can often claim payments for their losses by filing wrongful death claims.
Losing someone you love can affect your life in many serious ways. While no amount of financial compensation can truly make up for your loss, wrongful death claims attempt to compensate people for financial losses as well as emotional trauma. Wrongful death claim payments can help people pay for their bills after losing a source of income and provide families with the security they need to focus on recovering emotionally.
