Manteca Double Fatality Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Manteca personal injury lawyer. A group of friends from Tracy were traveling together along Highway 120 in Manteca during the evening hours of Saturday, April 8, 2017. The driver of the vehicle lost control which resulted in a tragic automobile crash.
What Happened?
A man was behind the wheel of his 2009 Mercedes-Benz traveling eastbound along Highway 120 Bypass at approximately 8:41 pm. The man lost control of his vehicle which caused it to roll over multiple times in the eastbound lanes of the highway in the vicinity of South Main Street.
Unfortunately, the impact of the collision caused the 30-year-old driver and the 16-year-old front passenger of the Mercedes-Benz to suffer fatal injuries. The 18-year-old passenger in the rear seat allegedly was the only occupant in the vehicle wearing a seat belt. The rear seat passenger suffered minor injuries and was able to exit out of the vehicle.
Shortly after the passenger in the rear seat of the Mercedes-Benz got out of the vehicle, the vehicle was broadsided by a 2002 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 38-year-old woman from Modesto. The Modesto woman and the surviving 18-year-old passenger were both transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Our condolences are with the loved ones of the two young victims that passed away in this tragic crash.
How Did the Crash Happen?
According to a spokesman from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man driving the Mercedes-Benz conducted an unsafe turning movement. This caused the man to lose control of his vehicle resulting in a collision with a guardrail, an electrical box and a highway information sign. CHP officers indicated alcohol alleged to be a factor in the crash.
