Roadway Blocked by Manteca Injury Crash on S.R. 120

A Manteca injury crash occurred on September 1, 2024, involving two vehicles on eastbound State Route 120 at the split to northbound S.R. 99. The incident happened around 4:52 p.m. and involved a Lexus and a Subaru Solterra. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), both vehicles sustained significant damage.

Manteca Injury Crash Appears to Be a Rear-End Collision

The Subaru sustained moderate rear-end damage, while the Lexus experienced major front-end damage. Emergency services from the San Joaquin Fire Department responded promptly, and the accident blocked the roadway for a time. However, the roadway was reopened by 5:17 p.m. The CHP traffic accident unit is conducting an investigation into fault in the accident.

Most Common Causes of a Rear-End Manteca Injury Crash

Rear-end collisions are some of the most common types of car accidents, often leading to significant damage and injury. Understanding the factors that contribute to these incidents can help drivers take necessary precautions to ensure safety on the road. The following are common causes of rear-end collisions:

  • Distracted Driving: Using mobile devices, eating, or adjusting the radio can divert attention from the road. When the driver looks up, it’s too late to avoid a Manteca injury crash.
  • Tailgating: Following too closely to the vehicle in front can reduce reaction time in the event of sudden stops.
  • Speeding: Driving above the speed limit decreases a driver’s ability to react in time to avoid a collision. A sudden traffic stoppage or slowdown up ahead can prevent the speeding driver from being able to adjust their speed in time to avoid an accident.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, and ice can impair visibility and road traction, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Liability may occur if the driver is going faster than weather conditions dictate.
  • Sudden Stops: Abrupt halts by the lead vehicle—due to traffic signals, obstacles, or changing lanes—can catch trailing vehicles off guard.
  • Poorly Maintained Brakes: Vehicles that lack proper brake maintenance may fail to stop quickly enough, leading to collisions.
