Marysville Hit and Run Leaves Cyclist Injured
I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville Car Accident Lawyer. A cyclist was hit by a driver and left injured on Thursday evening, November 9.
What Happened?
An erratic driver in a silver colored Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Simpson Lane in Marysville Thursday evening at around 5:30 p.m. Witnesses reported that the driver pulled onto the right shoulder of the road and tried to pass the vehicles in front of them. The sedan sped up and plowed into the back of a bicyclist who was riding on the side of the road, heading the same direction as traffic.
The driver of the vehicle, an adult female, fled the scene of the car accident in front of many witnesses. The silver Malibu was found abandoned near the KMYC radio station, not even a mile away from the scene. The female suspect escaped on foot or had an associate come pick her up. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have impounded the car as evidence and discovered that the car is not registered to a female.
The bicyclist, a 19-year-old male was identified as Tyler Anthony Rose. He was left with traumatic injuries after the sudden impact from behind. The bicycle that he was riding was crumpled underneath the car in the accident while Tyler’s body hit the windshield and was sent rolling up and over the roof of the Chevy onto the ground. People passing by the scene after Police had arrived reported seeing a body bag along the side of the road but the CHP has assured the public that Tyler Rose is in a near by hospital. The investigators revealed later, that they had covered evidence at the scene with blankets to protect it from the rain.
Possible Injuries
Being on a bicycle, the victim had no barrier between his body and the suspect’s car. The angle of the impact is an important factor in determining how extensive the injuries are. A collision with more of an angle, rather than directly behind, would cause a far greater risk of injury to the legs of the victim. Femur fractures are serious as the femoral artery can be damaged or severed and the femur bone itself has a large blood supply that can be compromised and cause major bleeding. The femur also plays a large part in the production of red and white blood cells.
The impact threw Rose onto the windshield before he rolled over the top and onto the ground. This impact could have very likely injured the head, neck, and spine. Impacts to the back of the head can cause concussions like any other head injury, but can also cause blindness because of the location of the visual cortex that processes eyesight. The collision into the windshield could have also caused fractures to the vertebrae in the spine. If the fractures occur near the spinal cord, the victim could suffer from paresthesia (numbness or tingling), paresis (muscle weakness) or even total paralysis.
