A tow truck was called to remove the motor vehicle, and the injured patient was transported to a hospital. Investigators with the CHP traffic accident division are determining how the crash occurred.
What Causes a Driver to Lose Control of Their Vehicle and Crash?
When a driver loses control of their vehicle, the cause could be due to any number of factors. Some of the most common causes are:
- Poor road conditions such as potholes, uneven surfaces, or badly timed traffic lights can cause an out-of-control vehicle.
- Distracted driving involves activities like texting while driving or using a cell phone behind the wheel.
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol commonly causes a driver to lose control.
- Going too fast for the conditions such as wet, icy roads, which can be cited as speeding, can result in an out-of-control vehicle.
- Slipping or skidding due to a mechanical failure in the vehicle’s braking system or tires often causes accidents because the driver is unable to control their vehicle.
- Fatigue or drowsiness from lack of sleep can make the driver nod off, resulting in an accident.
Once the cause of an auto accident has been determined, it is important to know how to handle the situation. This includes understanding your legal rights and obligations, as well as being aware of your medical needs and calculating your losses. An accident attorney’s job is to handle your claim for compensation, including gathering evidence that supports your case and calculating your damages as well as negotiating for you with the at-fault party’s insurance company.
