Crash Details
Officers of the Ukiah area California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the accident took place at about 9:07 a.m. A local man had been driving a 1991 Honda sedan north along Highway 1. The Honda driver reportedly made a left turn in order to exit the highway and entered the path of a southbound 2002 Infiniti. The two vehicles collided just north of the Jack Peters Bridge nearby the town of Mendocino. According to reports, the Infiniti collided head-on with the broadside of the Honda.

Emergency officials were called to the scene of the crash immediately. When they arrived, officers discovered that the driver of the Honda, identified as a 48-year-old Mendocino resident, had suffered severe injuries. Tragically, medics at the collision scene could not revive the injured man, and he passed away before being placed on an ambulance.
Responders also reported that the driver of the Infiniti suffered minor injuries during this accident. Reports did not specify whether or not the Infiniti driver was treated at the scene of the crash or taken to a hospital for care. Additionally, a second individual in the Infiniti was reportedly uninjured during the incident.

CHP officers are investigating this car accident in order to find out what may have caused it to happen. Officials say that they are looking into whether or not driver impairment may have been involved in the accident, but have not mentioned any suspected factors. Additionally, CHP stated that all three individuals who were involved in the accident had been wearing seatbelts when the crash took place.
