Merced County Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced pedestrian accident lawyer. A pedestrian was walking in Stevinson on Monday, February 27, 2017 when an oncoming vehicle struck him. Unfortunately, the pedestrian suffered traumatic injuries and the driver fled from the scene of the accident.

What Happened?

A man from Hilmar was walking westbound along Third Avenue in the vicinity of Rose Road. For unknown reasons, an oncoming motorist crashed into the pedestrian with the front right side of their vehicle. The driver drove away from the scene without making any attempt to see if the injured pedestrian needed medical attention.

Was the Pedestrian Injured?

Sadly, the 28-year-old man from Hilmar, suffered major head injuries and was transported to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He was later identified as Nathaniel Fleming. As of Tuesday, February 28, 2017, Fleming was still being treated in the intensive care unit.

What Caused the Pedestrian Accident?

An exact cause of the pedestrian accident has not yet been released by investigators. It is unclear to authorities whether Nathaniel Fleming was walking on the northern shoulder of Third Avenue or in the roadway. Fragments from the side mirror of the vehicle were discovered at the scene. Officers stated that the incident should be used as a reminder for the shared responsibility for road safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents With No Witnesses

Unwitnessed pedestrian accidents are difficult cases to handle. The reason being is the motorist of the vehicle may attempt to testify that the pedestrian abruptly appeared in front of them and they were unable to avoid crashing into them. Even though a police report may take the word of the motorist, an experienced personal injury attorney will investigate further. Factors in the accident such as distracted driving, drunk driving or speeding may be unveiled. Call an experienced pedestrian accident attorney for more information.
