Merced County Single Vehicle Accident Fatality

A Merced County single-vehicle accident fatality recently occurred along Highway 99 in the vicinity of West 16th Street. The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 in the morning when a man driving his 2015 Ford Fiesta drifted off the roadway and struck a pillar below the highway. The impact of the collision reportedly caused the Ford to catch fire, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Several passing drivers pulled over to extricate the man from the burning car. Emergency personnel responding to the scene performed CPR on the man. Sadly, he was unable to overcome his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified by officials as 43-year-old Lawrence Verdin Jr. of Atwater.

I want to send my healing thoughts and prayers to those mourning the loss of Mr. Verdin during this difficult time.

Single Vehicle Accidents and Wrongful Death

When a loved one is lost in a single vehicle accident, the family of the decedent may face a devastating emotional and financial loss. Those affected by these situations may be able to file a wrongful death claim against those who may be responsible for a loved one’s wrongful death. This may include the government entity responsible for maintaining the road on which the collision occurred or the automaker or manufacturer liable for a defective vehicle part or equipment. Government entity claims and auto products liability cases are often complex to pursue as negligence must be proven to recover damages. An experienced Atwater wrongful death lawyer can help in these situations by investigating further into the matter to properly determine liability and secure a family’s right to fair compensation for their loved one’s untimely death.

Recoverable Damages in a Wrongful Death Claim

Family members who meet the criteria of the California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60 may be eligible to recover damages in a wrongful death claim. These damages include funeral and burial expenses, lost income, benefits that are lost such as health care or pension, household services, and more. How a Wrongful Death Lawyer Can Help

In addition to the emotional toll of a loved one’s unexpected passing, a wrongful death may be accompanied by end of life medical costs and funeral expenses. A surviving spouse or children of the decedent may lose a significant source of income for the household, especially if the deceased was the primary provider of the family. Filing a wrongful death claim to recover resultant losses can be difficult and even more so when coping with the grief associated with a loved one’s death caused by the negligence of another party or entity. In these circumstances, an experienced wrongful death lawyer in Atwater can help by navigating the legal complexities of these cases and providing compassion to guide a family through such troubling times.
