According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident was reported as a two-vehicle collision that took place in heavy rainfall conditions. For unknown reasons, a man pulled his car over along the center median of Highway 99.

What is the Purpose of a Wrongful Death Claim?
The loss of a family member may be a traumatic, life-changing experience at any point in your life. When the loss was the result of someone else’s negligence, survivors may experience confusion, frustration, and anger knowing that the incident could have been prevented. During this difficult time, surviving family members need all the help they can get, and a wrongful death claim may help with that. Such cases may assist with providing survivors with the means they need to rebuild their lives after a devastating loss.
It might feel strange to seek compensation for the loss of a close relative. However, the purpose of a wrongful death claim is to hold the at-fault party liable for their actions and the harm they have caused. Financial recovery through these cases is beyond payment for lost future financial support, funeral expenses, and end-of-life medical costs. These cases are intended to compensate survivors for the intangible losses they have experienced as a result of the fatal car accident, including loss of companionship, lost parental guidance, mental anguish, and other damages. While no amount of money can undo the pain of losing a loved one, a settlement may help ease the emotional and financial burden of such a devastating loss and help families obtain a sense of closure and justice.
California law is specific on which surviving family member may file a wrongful death claim on behalf of a lost loved one. The immediate family generally has priority when it comes to bringing such cases forward, including surviving spouses, domestic partners, and children. This is by the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 377.60. If the decedent did not leave children, a spouse, or a domestic partner, the claim may be brought by CCP 377.60. If unsure of whether you have grounds to bring a wrongful death case, an experienced accident attorney may determine whether you are eligible.
