Microtransit SmaRT Arrives in Citrus Heights
I’m Ed Smith, a car accident lawyer in Citrus Heights. Traveling around Citrus Heights just got easier with a service for ridesharing by Regional Transit in Sacramento. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at City Hall on February 12, the service’s name is SmaRT Ride.
Enhancing the City Ride Service
This new service has been formed by a partnership between Sacramento RT and TransLoc and is meant to be more flexible and convenient. With the enactment of this innovative program, residents of Citrus Heights will be able to use their smartphones to schedule their rides wherever they happen to be, and smaller buses will transport them wherever they need to go. SmaRT drivers will use an iPad to map directions for passenger travel.
Why This Is Helpful
This innovation will be helpful particularly for seniors who currently might find it difficult to walk to the bus stop. Also, planning is easier since there is no need to plot out the route the bus normally takes, and see if it will work for you. In addition, there is no need for advance scheduling, as there is with the existing shuttle buses.
Keeping Costs Low
Planners are hoping to keep the cost low. SacRT currently charges $2.75 per passenger. Seniors and students pay less. The new microtransit system aims to charge customers the same amount.
Ceremony Details
The ribbon cutting and press conference was held at 10:00 in the morning. It included a demonstration that lasted about 20 minutes. The demonstration revealed how the new service works, how users can schedule rides and explained how to use the new software app.
Expansion
In an effort to help people get around the area, planners envision expansion into other areas. They foresee a future when people can simply request SmaRT service to take them to a bigger bus service or the light rail. As part of the overall transit system in the Sacramento area, SmaRT will provide an invaluable service and may help reduce the number of vehicular accidents on the road.
How It Has Worked in Other Cities
The microtransit system has caught on in a multitude of cities with slight differences in the way customers engage the services. Some are start-ups with private funding, and others are linked to city planning. The advent of widespread smartphone use has allowed the systems to adapt to the way people live by integrating smartphones and big data. For younger members of urban areas, microtransit systems give them the flexibility they need. With low cost, the future of urban and in some cases suburban transit looks bright. One system, Chariot, even permits users to offer insight into better routes. Another, Bridj, makes additional service vehicles available when the need presents itself such as heavy rains that prohibit walking.
Ways That Microtransit Can Be Most Useful
At this time, the future of new transportation systems is developing. The need for new ways to link urban areas together has become a focus. Overall, microtransit is being seen as an adjunct to traditional forms of transportation. It also allows areas that are not serviced by traditional transit systems to be linked to broader transportation lines. Microtransit, such as SmaRT, will provide not just door-to-door transportation, but give more people access to broader service.
Bus Crashes in the United States
While bus crashes aren’t as common as other types, when they do occur, major injuries and fatalities can result, both to those on the bus and to those in motor vehicles when they are involved. Injuries may include traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, spinal cord damage or a host of other serious problems that can require a long period of recuperation and loss of income. When the crash has been caused because of a negligent bus driver or company, the injured person may wish to contact an injury lawyer experienced in handling this type of case.
