Mild Laser Resurfacing Cellulitis – Often overlooked, the largest organ of the body is the skin. Two of the many different types of lasers include:
Carbon Dioxide: While most people know CO2 as the gas that is exhaled from the body, this laser has been shown to be effective in the treatment of warts, scars, wrinkles, and many other skin conditions.
Erbium: For those who have deeper wrinkles and lines, an erbium laser may be used instead of a carbon dioxide laser. It also causes fewer side effects than a carbon dioxide laser.
Unfortunately, some people have complications after their laser treatment procedures. One of these is called cellulitis.
Cellulitis Following a Laser Treatment
While many people are worried that the laser will burn them, cellulitis is another significant concern. Cellulitis is a skin infection that may occur after a laser treatment. Some of the symptoms include:
- Swelling around the laser area
- Considerable redness at the treatment site, called erythema
- Pain that is worse on palpation
- Blisters
- Possible pus or purulent fluid leaking from the site
These are only a few of the many different signs that someone has developed cellulitis. While some cases of cellulitis are mild and can be treated with oral antibiotics other cases can be extremely severe. Cellulitis can spread to the deeper tissues, infect the bones, and even place people in a hospital where they will require intravenous antibiotics. Sometimes, individuals can also develop permanent scarring from a cellulitis infection. This can cause people to miss work, impact their self-confidence, and cause a quality of life issue.
