Intersection Accident on Marconi Avenue Sends One Person to the Hospital
A minor injury accident was reported in Carmichael on November 16 following a collision involving two vehicles. The accident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Marconi and Garfield avenues between a Kia Sportage and another vehicle. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one of the vehicles ended up on a sidewalk, and the other struck a tree.
One Patient Transported to a Hospital After Minor Injury Accident
One of those vehicles also crashed into a telephone pole at the intersection. The roadway was clear shortly after 10:00 a.m. At least one individual involved in the accident was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center. Investigators with the CHP are determining how the minor injury accident occurred to place which driver was at fault.
Establishing a Record of your Minor Injury Accident
What appears to be a minor injury sometimes turns out to be something major, which can result in hospitalization and high medical bills as well as time off from work and the pain and suffering that goes along with it. This is why it is so important to get yourself checked out at the emergency room or by your family physician after an accident. In addition, it establishes that you were in an accident if you need to place a claim for compensation later.
Some Injuries From a Traffic Collision Are Delayed
Those who are involved in a traffic accident are flooded with adrenaline, which often occurs during stressful periods. Because of this, symptoms in what appears to be a minor injury accident can be masked or delayed, coming on hours, days or even weeks later. Without establishing a record of your accident injury, even a minor one, it makes it more difficult to place a claim for compensation when problems arise.
Delayed Symptoms Following a Seemingly Minor Injury Accident
There are a number of injury symptoms that can be delayed following a minor injury accident. These include:
- Back pain: This is a common injury following a traffic accident. Although there might be slight pain following the collision, it can increase over time, making it difficult to move comfortably, walk or even go to work. Serious back pain can indicate a herniated disc, sprain, spinal injury or cervical strain. Limited mobility is caused by back pain and seriously alters an individual’s way of life and ability to work, requiring extensive medical treatment.
- Headaches: Headaches following a minor injury accident are common, but when they begin to increase in severity, that could indicate a problem. Increasing headaches may mean a concussion or other traumatic brain injury, neck trauma, or a blood clot. When someone strikes their head during a traffic accident, getting checked out right away is important.
- Neck pain and stiffness: Cervical strain or sprain is common following a traffic accident, even in low-speed rear-end collisions. Although “whiplash” can occur in a minor injury accident and often resolves in a few weeks, more serious cases can take up to a year to heal and cause blurred vision, headaches, swelling, pain, numbness, and limited motion.
- Abdominal pain: Abdominal pain is something that should be checked out right away, preferably at urgent care or the emergency room. Pain and heavy bruising in the abdomen may indicate internal bleeding or damage to an organ and is extremely serious.
- Behavioral changes: Depression, problems hearing or seeing, and changes in memory or personality can indicate a serious problem and can come on slowly over time. These symptoms may be related to an undiagnosed brain injury and require medical attention.
- Tingling and numbness: When tingling or numbness occurs in your extremities following a minor injury accident, it may be another sign of cervical strain or sprain, a pinched nerve, or other problems that need medical attention.
