SR 51 Multiple-Vehicle Accident Blocks Slow Lane
A minor injury was reported in a multiple-vehicle accident on northbound State Route 51 in Sacramento on July 7. The collision involved a Tesla Model 3, Toyota Camry, and two other unidentified vehicles. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the collision occurred just north of the Arden Way on-ramp around 1:41 p.m.
One Person Suffers Minor Injuries in Afternoon Highway Crash
The slow lane ended up blocked, and the Tesla ended up in the center divider. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department determined that one party involved in the multiple-vehicle accident suffered a minor injury. No report was released on whether that individual was transported to a hospital.
At Least Two Vehicles Towed From Scene of Multiple-Vehicle Accident
The collision was severe enough that both the Tesla and Toyota had to be towed from the scene. The CHP is investigating to find out how the multiple-vehicle accident happened and to assign fault.
When Minor Injuries Aren’t
Adrenaline rushes through the body when someone is involved in an accident, which can mask symptoms of a serious injury. This is one of the reasons a personal injury lawyer always advises anyone who has been in a traffic collision, no matter how minor, to go to a doctor or the emergency room to get checked out. Some injuries where symptoms may appear after several days include:
- Concussion: Concussions can occur when the occupants in a vehicle are tossed around during the impact by the other car. Symptoms can include nausea, dizziness, confusion, headaches, and others.
- Cervical strain or sprain: These injuries happen due to the sudden jolt of a collision, especially in a multiple-vehicle accident when a car may be struck many times. Symptoms can include neck and shoulder pain, problems concentrating, numbness in the hands and arms, or headaches.
- Trauma to internal organs: The first sign of internal damage may be pain and bruising. After a day or two, these symptoms may worsen and include fever, fainting, dizziness, falling blood pressure and deepening bruises and even fever. Because internal bleeding or organ damage is extremely serious, emergency surgery is often required to repair the damage.
Injuries That Can Occur After Several Days
Not all injuries appear within the first two days. Others can arise later on, including:
- Those who have been in a motor vehicle accident often have discomfort or pain afterward. Later, they may find that their symptoms are getting worse, which can indicate sprains or strains in almost any part of the body, including the discs in the spine and the back. More serious problems can result in a long period of recuperation or a permanent disability, especially if the spinal column is involved.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder occurs in some people following a multiple-vehicle accident. Changes in their sleeping and eating patterns, severe anxiety, nightmares, and reliving of the accident can force them to seek professional help. When professional treatment is needed to treat PTSD symptoms, the cost can be recovered through a personal injury claim.
