Modesto Crash Injures Five
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. A head-on crash took place in south Modesto on the afternoon of Thursday, December 8, 2016. Unfortunately, the crash injured five occupants as a result.
What Happened?
A motorist was driving in their white Honda Accord traveling westbound along Hatch Road in the vicinity of Monticello Lane. A blue Toyota was traveling eastbound along Hatch Road at the same time the Honda was. For reasons that are not known, the driver of the Honda veered into the eastbound lane and collided with the Toyota head-on. Officers received the call regarding the accident at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police and rescue were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The following video demonstrates the severity of the head-on automobile collision. The impact of the crash caused major body damage to both vehicles and even caused fragments of the vehicle to be propelled along the roadway. Thankfully, all five occupants were not fatally injured in the crash that could have been worse.
Were They Okay?
The motorists of both vehicles and the two children in the Toyota suffered minor injuries in the accident. Unfortunately, the elderly female passenger in the Toyota sustained major injuries. All five injured occupants were taken to local hospitals. Authorities have not disclosed any information regarding the identities of the injured occupants.
Things to Remember After Auto Accident
An auto accident can forever change our lives in an instant. They can be the result of distracted driving (texting, posting on Instagram, looking at Facebook etc.), drunk driving, or simply inattention. When you are seriously injured in an accident you should remember these important rules.
- Do not speak to the at-fault motorist’s insurance company before talking with an experienced personal injury lawyer. It’s best to speak with a lawyer before contacting your own insurance company after an accident. This is true even if you’re not the one at fault.
- Insurance companies typically do not have your best interest on their mind. While they may seem friendly and helpful, it’s in their best interest to pay you the least amount possible. They often try to reach out to you before you talk to an attorney so they can obtain your recorded statement. They do this in order to get information that they can later use against you. Did you know that once you have a lawyer they cannot speak to you? So avoid the recorded statement as it is their one and only chance. They know how and what to say so you feel so comfortable and open up with them. You may inadvertently say something that hurts or potentially destroys your case. Don’t fall for this trap.
