Modesto Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto wrongful death attorney. A suspect fled from the scene of a pedestrian accident that killed a homeless victim in Modesto on December 17, 2016. An agency released the photo of the suspect for the general public to identify the suspect’s whereabouts. Through the efforts of social media, the suspect later turned himself in to authorities.
What Happened?
The hit-and-run driver that recklessly crashed into a homeless pedestrian last month was identified as 35-year-old Jesse Castaneda. Castaneda was behind the wheel of a black Saturn that crashed into a pedestrian that was crossing Sylvan Street in the vicinity of McHenry Street. Castaneda struck a light pole after colliding with the victim. After the crash, Castaneda allegedly got out of his vehicle, walked over to look at the victim, reversed his vehicle over the victim and fled from the scene. Castaneda was detained on charges of felony hit-and-run and suspicion of murder. The victim that Castaneda crashed into was 50-year-old Nicholas Dale Kliewer.
