Modesto Fatality Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto car accident lawyer. In the early morning hours of Thursday, January 19, 2017, an accident involving three vehicles occurred on Highway 132 near Stone Avenue in Modesto.
What Happened
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to reports of a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 132 around 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning. CHP reports indicate that a 19-year-old man who was traveling eastbound in his 1994 Mercedes drove his vehicle into the westbound lane for unknown reasons. The Mercedes sideswiped a 2008 Subaru driven by a Modesto resident, Enrique Hernandez. The driver of the Mercedes continued westbound until the vehicle came to a stop colliding with a 2005 Ford pickup truck being driven by 23-year-old Cordova Moreno, of Mexico. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the cause of this tragic accident. So far, investigators do not believe speed or driving under the influence to be a factor in the accident.
1 Injured, 1 Fatality
When emergency crews arrived at the scene they discovered that the 19-year-old driver of the Mercedes was unconscious. Sadly, he passed away as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Ford pickup truck was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto to receive treatment for traumatic injuries he suffered in this multi-vehicle collision. The other driver involved did not request medical attention at the scene of the collision.
Highway Closures
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 132 between Dakota Avenue and Stone Avenue in Modesto were closed to traffic for approximately three hours while personnel from the CHP collected evidence and road crews worked to clear the debris from the roadways. Two additional vehicles that were traveling that stretch of the highway sustained minor damage from accident debris on the road prior to the road closure.
