Losing a Loved One Unexpectedly

Learning that a loved one died unexpectedly is devastating for a family. Finding out it occurred due to negligence is even more traumatic. However, this is what happens to far too many families as they face the grief and anger that this type of event triggers. Friends of the family can help by:

  • Make contact with family members by phone or in person. Let them know you are there for them. It is not important to have all the answers. Just provide the bereaved with caring support. It is impossible to take their pain away, but you can give them the assurance that you care.
  • Recognize that they may need help with small tasks such as running the vacuum, shopping or picking up something at the pharmacy. Let them know that you want to help; however, just pitching in and doing what needs to be done is probably the best option.
  • Bring a meal to the family home. Make sure to ask if there are foods anyone may be unable to eat. Sending over take-out is another option.
  • Remember that everyone grieves in their own way and refrain from pushing the bereaved to move on. They will do it in their own time.
  • Offer to accompany the bereaved to the funeral home to make final arrangements. This can be a difficult time for a grieving person.
  • Be available after the funeral services. This can be a lonely time for someone who lost a loved one.

How a Wrongful Death Lawsuit Can Help

Losing a family member to negligence affects each person differently. For some, the loss can translate into financial hardship. A wrongful death lawsuit can help. Your injury lawyer will be able to tell you your options.

Motor Vehicle Crashes in Sacramento

There are many different reasons for a wrongful death accident. Let’s explore the most common:

  • Distracted driving: Driving while focused on something other than the road has become the most frequent cause of a motor vehicle accident.
  • Drunk driving: Being impaired by the use of drugs or alcohol often leads to fatal accidents.
  • Aggressive driving: More motor vehicle crashes today are caused by an aggressive driver. This can take the form of speeding or changing lanes without looking.
  • Fatigued driving: Due to complicated work schedules, many drivers are too tired to get behind the wheel. This can lead to a motor vehicle accident.

Investigating a Motor Vehicle Accident

Evidence is a crucial part of an investigation into the reason a motor vehicle accident happened. Without substantial evidence of liability, the chance the case will proceed is remote.  For this reason, we send our investigative team to the accident scene. There they speak to witnesses, obtain video footage of the accident and review the police report for accuracy. We also use accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability. Once all the data is gathered, our investigators release it to our lawyers to construct a strong client case.
