Motor Vehicle Collision on Interstate 5
A motor vehicle collision involving four vehicles on September 10 along northbound Interstate 5 resulted in the hospitalization of one person. The accident happened just north of Fruitridge Road near the Sutterville Road off-ramp at about 8:22 in the morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident blocked the number one and two lanes during rush hour, which caused traffic problems until it was cleared around 10:00 a.m. The injured party was transported by medical personnel with the Sacramento Fire Department to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
What an Attorney Can Do for You
After a motor vehicle collision, you may experience both physical and financial loss. Monetary loss is primarily due to medical expenses and lost wages. This can be worrisome, particularly if you are unable to work. This is where a personal injury lawyer’s insight helps. Our law firm follows a tried and true protocol to assist our clients in recovering damages. First, we dispatch an investigative team to the accident site. There we interview witnesses, look for evidence to prove negligence on the part of the at-fault driver, and review the police report for errors. We also obtain video camera footage from traffic cams and nearby businesses to show how the motor vehicle collision occurred.
Motor Vehicle Collision Occurrence
Collisions involving several vehicles are common. They usually occur when an at-fault driver hits the rear of the vehicle in front of them at an intersection or on the highway in slowing traffic. When this happens, the vehicle that was rammed from behind often hits the rear of the car in front of them. This chain-reaction can continue, or one of the vehicles can be moved into an adjacent lane. In practice, this can cause a side-impact accident in the other lane as traffic tries to move out of the way. The main issue with this type of car accident is that the vehicles can be hit from multiple directions as they are thrown into one another. Someone hit on the side of the vehicle is commonly at the highest risk since doors do not come equipped with the same protections as the front or rear of the vehicle. Also, since the vehicles are often hit multiple times, the safety devices such as airbags are ineffective after the first motor vehicle collision. Serious injuries and fatalities can result because of this.
How to Prove Who Was at Fault
It is essential that your attorney prove who was negligent in the accident. Without proving negligence, the case cannot proceed. We do this in a variety of time-proven ways. Chief among them is to reconstruct accidents, sometimes using computer renderings. This allows our lawyers to deal with insurance companies using the latest technological advances and to show the computerized breakdown of the motor vehicle collision to the jury in a civil trial.
Other Causes of a Multiple Vehicle Accident
There are other causes of multiple vehicle accidents. Some occur due to inclement weather when the road becomes slick and vehicles lose control. On other occasions, vehicles may have defects that affect the brakes or tires. In both instances, the driver may be unable to control his or her car, initiating a chain reaction accident.
