We send our condolences to the family and friends of Miss Lopez who lost her life in this devastating incident.
What Happened?
Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were dispatched to the scene of a motorcycle accident along Highway 108 and 120 in the vicinity of Lancaster Road at about 11:25 am. Upon arrival, officials discovered a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle on its wheels against a fence and a seriously injured rider receiving medical attention by emergency responders.
Nature of Injuries
The motorcyclist was transported to the Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale for treatment. Sadly, the motorcyclist passed away during hospitalization due to the severe nature of her injuries.
Identity of Victim
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of the accident as 59-year-old Katherine Lopez of Manteca.
Accident Investigation
Investigators from CHP have not yet determined a cause of the motorcycle accident. Usually, Traffic Collision Reports are processed within one to two weeks. A preliminary investigation by CHP reported that the rider was traveling approximately 35 miles per hour moments before approaching a curve and a rise in the roadway. The rider, for unknown reasons, lost control and veered off the roadway and onto the south shoulder. The rider collided with a dirt embankment, which allegedly caused her to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents can be life-changing events that oftentimes result in serious injuries or even death. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in collisions with motor vehicles as they are not offered the same level of body protection as a passenger vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 4,976 motorcyclists suffered fatal injuries in traffic accidents in 2015. This number accounted for an 8 percent increase when compared to the number of motorcyclist fatalities in 2014. Additionally, the NHTSA also reported that an estimated 88,000 motorcycle riders suffered injuries in 2015. If you or a loved one has suffered losses in a motorcycle accident, you do not have to endure this stressful experience alone. It is important to discuss the details of your case with a seasoned Manteca personal injury lawyer who can protect your rights and obtain fair compensation for your injuries and other damages.
