Motorcycle Accident Injures Atwater Man Near Merced County
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. An Atwater man was riding his motorcycle in Merced County on the night of Saturday, February 3, 2018. The man was involved in a motorcycle accident which, unfortunately, caused him to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?
An Atwater man was riding his 2002 Indian motorcycle northbound along the slow lane of Highway 99 at approximately 7:15 pm. The man noticed an object in the roadway and attempted to avoid it. The motorcyclist reportedly swerved into a 2012 GMC Yukon in the fast lane of travel. The impact of the collision caused the rider to fall off his motorcycle. A driver of a 1993 Mercury Villager was approaching the accident scene and stopped in time to avoid a collision with the motorcyclist. However, a Merced woman driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma was unable to stop in time and struck the rear-end of the Mercury. The force of the Toyota caused the Mercury to, unfortunately, collide with the motorcyclist.
Nature of Injuries
An air ambulance was called to the scene to transport the seriously injured motorcyclist to a Modesto trauma center for treatment of two leg fractures and lacerations. An update on his condition has not yet been released.
What Caused the Accident?
The cause of the motorcycle accident is not yet known due to a pending California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation. Officials reported that there were no citations or arrests made at the collision scene.
