Motorcycle Accident Near Merced Leaves Man with Major Injuries

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced motorcycle accident attorney. A motorcycle accident on Monday, September 25, left a man with major injuries just south of Merced, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Details of the Accident

The CHP reports that the accident occurred on Monday afternoon on Highway 59 near Canton Road. The victim, a 43-year-old man, was riding his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on the highway around 4:12pm. Reports say that he was riding behind a 2006 Dodge RAM also headed northbound. As traffic began to slow, the driver of the RAM applied the brakes and swerved to the right.

The motorcyclist was not able to slow down in time, slamming into the rear of the RAM. Police said that alcohol and drugs were not to blame for the accident. According to the driver of the RAM, a vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly, which led him to swerve to the right in an effort not to hit the car in front of him.

The motorcycle rider suffered major injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. His identity was not released by police. His condition has not been updated.

Common Motorcycle Accident Injuries

Victims of Merced motorcycle accidents can suffer any of the following injuries that can range from minor to severe:

Merced Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle Safety Tips

Motorcycle riders of all experience levels need to practice safety each time they hit the road. This includes always wearing a helmet, donning reflective gear, wearing protective footwear, and wearing the proper clothing. Riders should obey all posted speed limits, refrain from tailgating, and leave room on the road to avoid being hit by other drivers. Riders should ride with the assumption that they will NOT be seen by other motorists. When riders operate using this mantra they will put themselves in safe situations when riding in Merced County and the surrounding areas.
