Motorcycle Accident on Highway 20 Leaves One Dead Near Willits

What We Know
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a 38-year-old man from Willits was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 20 near his hometown on October 1. The accident occurred around 7:30pm on Sunday. The report from the CHP says that the unidentified man was killed when his motorcycle hit a tree after attempting to pass another vehicle.
The man was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 on his 2007 Yamaha bike when he made the decision to pass another vehicle on the roadway. The accident occurred just 20 miles outside of Fort Bragg. The officer investigating the crash described the stretch of roadway as a no-passing zone. The officer also mentioned that the motorcycle rider failed to negotiate a curve after passing the vehicle and returning his bike to the eastbound lane.
The motorcycle left the roadway after failing to negotiate the curve and hit a large tree. The collision ejected the rider from the motorcycle. First responders declared the man deceased upon their arrival. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and police have also stated that they don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the deadly accident.
