I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Motorcycle Accident Attorney. A 32-year-old man was killed on Monday in a motorcycle accident involving an SUV in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Details of the Accident

According to the report from the CHP, the accident occurred on Monday morning in the vicinity of Arden Way at Watt Avenue. Just before 6:30 am Monday morning police say that an SUV made a legal U-turn on Watt Avenue. As the SUV made the legal U-turn the motorcycle, operated by Adam Calhoun of Sacramento, collided into the rear of the SUV. The impact of the accident killed Calhoun as he and the bike slid into the SUV. Police believe the motorcycle was traveling between 45 and 55 MPH at the time of the accident.

CHP reported that Calhoun applied the brakes abruptly, causing him to lose control of the bike as it turned on its left side. Calhoun was thrown from the bike before he and the bike were thrown into the back of the SUV as it completed its U-turn. Police have said the U-turn was a legal maneuver, but are investigating whether or not it was safe at the time for the SUV to make the turn.

The driver of the SUV, who was not injured, remained at the scene and spoke with police. Watt Avenue in the southbound direction was closed for a little under two hours. The driver of the SUV has not been identified by police, who have not said if charges would come from their investigation.

We extend our condolences to the motorcyclist’s friends and family during this difficult time.
