Motorcycle Accidents and Their Common Causes
Motorcycle riders are generally cautious because they know they are vulnerable to injuries in an accident. Because they have less protection, they face a four times higher risk of injury and 28 times higher risk of death in a collision. Unfortunately, accidents involving motor vehicles happen far too often. The following are the most common types of collisions involving a motor vehicle and motorcycle:
- Distracted driving: Distracted driving is a major cause of all types of accidents, including a motorcycle crash in Rio Vista. Using phones while driving is the main reason.
- Fatigued Driving: Fatigued driving occurs after driving for long periods, lack of sleep, or medication-induced drowsiness. When drivers are fatigued, they become less alert to the traffic around them or may drift off to sleep and enter another lane by accident.
- Misjudging distance and speed: Misgauging the distance to a motorcycle and its speed often leads to drivers pulling out in front of them. In the resulting collision, the motorcyclist may have to brake suddenly, risking being thrown into traffic or losing control.
- Blind spots: Motor vehicle drivers can cause a motorcycle crash in Rio Vista by changing lanes without checking for a rider coming up. Lane-splitting also causes these accidents.
- Driving under the influence: Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol frequently causes motorcycle accidents. An impaired driver is a danger to everyone on the road, including motorcyclists.
