Motorcycle Crash Kills Oakdale Resident
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury attorney. A car versus motorcycle crash took place during the evening hours of Sunday, February 12, 2017. Unfortunately, the impact of the collision caused one person to suffer fatal injuries.
What Happened?
An Oakdale man was traveling on his 1999 Suzuki motorcycle westbound along Highway 108 shortly after 7:00 pm. An 85-year-old man from Manteca was driving in his 2005 Mercury behind the motorcyclist. For unknown reasons, the elderly man failed to slow down as he was approaching the rear of the man’s motorcycle. This resulted in a rear-end collision that propelled the man’s motorcycle in a westward direction and ejected him off the bike into the eastbound lane of the freeway.
An oncoming 50-year-old motorist from Stockton was traveling in a 1998 Toyota eastbound along Highway 108 in the vicinity of Snedigar Road. The motorist was approaching the scene of the accident and did not see the motorcyclist in the eastbound lane. Unfortunately, the motorist crashed into the motorcyclist.
What Caused the Accident?
Authorities from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have not yet released a cause for this accident. Traffic collision reports generally take up to two weeks to be processed. When the report is released it usually indicates fault for the crash. Unfortunately, traffic collision reports may contain errors or be inconclusive as to fault. This can leave family members of a victim who passed away in the crash with many unanswered questions. This is why it is crucial to contact a personal injury lawyer who is experienced in investigating motorcycle accidents. The attorney can investigate the sequence of events leading up to a crash to properly determine fault.
The man riding on the Suzuki motorcycle was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 28-year-old Justin Rosa, of Oakdale. Sadly, Rosa was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the grave nature of his injuries.
We extend our condolences to the family members of the motorcyclist who passed away in this tragic accident.
