Motorcycle Crash Kills West Sacramento Father
I’m Ed Smith, a Motorcycle Accident Attorney in West Sacramento. A local resident died tragically in a crash on I-80 after losing control of his motorcycle. The man leaves behind a wife and five children.
What Happened?
The motorcyclist, Tim Arias from West Sacramento, left his home on Saturday to make his regular commute to Martinez where he worked. Along the way, a strong gust of wind pushed Arias’s motorcycle into the guard rail. Officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have cited unusually high winds at the time of the crash as a contributory factor. Witness have reported that Arias was traveling at approximately 70 MPH according to the CHP. Saturday’s gusts were measured at nearly 50 MPH. Sadly, Arias suffered fatal injuries in the the crash.
My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Arias during this difficult time. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the Arias family with memorial costs.
Risks Facing Motorcyclists
Motorcycle’s do not offer the same protections found in automobiles, and riders face substantial risks whenever they ride. Riders are exposed to the weather without the benefits of an enclosed cabin. There are no airbags, steel doors, or crumple zones to absorb impacts. A rider may even be ejected from the saddle and incur significant injury as they come to a stop. Motorcycles are also inherently less stable than vehicles with four or more wheels, meaning that road hazards like puddles, oil spills, and potholes present a greater danger. When a motorcyclist is involved in an accident, the injuries sustained are often catastrophic and can even prove fatal. In the event that a rider is killed in an accident, surviving family members may turn to a Sacramento Wrongful Death Lawyer to file a claim for recovery.
Wrongful Death Claim After a Motorcycle Crash
When a motorcyclist is killed in an accident, his or her survivors can be left with both the pain of losing a loved one and the financial hardship of burial costs and lost income. If the negligence of another party contributed to the accident, the family of the deceased rider may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. The actions of other drivers, defective products, improperly maintained roads, and malfunctioning traffic signals can all constitute negligence on the part of a third party. Only a thorough review of the specific circumstances in any given collision can provide answers to questions regarding liability. If you have lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident, you may wish to consider speaking with a Sacramento Wrongful Death Lawyer to discuss your case.
