Motorcycle Driver and Passenger Killed in Redding Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Redding motorcycle accident attorney. On Sunday, February 4, 2018, a motorcyclist and his passenger both lost their lives due to injuries sustained in a Redding area collision.

I would like to send my condolences to those who knew and cared about the deceased.

Accident Information

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials reported that the collision occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Keswick Dam Road. Lt. Gene Randall of CHP indicated that Jesse Lee Quaid, a 33-year-old area man, had been driving west on Keswick Dam Boulevard with his passenger, Kristionna Anne Quaid, on the back of his motorcycle.

The motorcyclist reportedly entered a curve a short distance to the west of Quartz Hill Road and failed to properly negotiate the turn, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The motorcycle fell on its side in the eastbound lane of the roadway before sliding into an oncoming SUV. Officers say that the SUV slowed abruptly and attempted to swerve to the right, but was ultimately not able to avoid a collision with the motorcycle.

Response and Injuries

After they received a call alerting them of the crash, CHP sent emergency personnel to respond to the accident. Arriving responders discovered the motorcyclist and his passenger stuck underneath the SUV. Shasta County Fire Department (SCFD) personnel immediately began working to remove the individuals out from underneath the SUV.

Jesse Quaid was subsequently pronounced deceased on-scene. Kristionna Quaid, who sustained major injuries, was put in an ambulance and rushed to the Mercy Medical Center. Kirstionna Quaid later lost her life in the hospital after she was unable to recover from her injuries.

The driver of the SUV, an unidentified 41-year-old man, and his passenger, a 2-year-old girl, did not receive injuries during the accident according to CHP.

Investigation

Investigating officials are currently attempting to get a full picture of all of the factors that were involved in this tragic collision. Officers have not yet made any mention of whether or not DUI is suspected to have been part of this accident.

While the reason that Jesse Quaid lost control of his vehicle remains unclear at present, factors under investigation include faulty vehicle parts such as brakes or steering systems, dangerous conditions of the roadway such as potholes or lack of proper signage, reckless driving behaviors such as speeding or fatigued driving, and more.

Anybody who has information that they think could aid officers in their investigation can call the non-emergency line 1-800-TELL-CHP to report what they know.
