Motorcyclist Hurt in Davis Freeway Accident
A motorcyclist suffered injuries during a Davis freeway accident that happened on Saturday, April 25, 2020. According to information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened in the afternoon on a local highway and may have involved multiple vehicles. Medical officials indicated that, while the motorcyclist was seriously injured, he was expected to survive his trauma and make a full recovery. The crash is being investigated by CHP at this time.
Crash Details
This crash occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 on the eastern edge of Davis. The motorcyclist was reportedly driving westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle. The rider was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle and rolled several times across traffic lanes before coming to a rest on the highway.
CHP authorities dispatched a response team to the accident site right away. When they arrived, responders determined that the motorcyclist had suffered multiple bone fractures as well as severe road rash. The man was reportedly placed in an ambulance and rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to receive immediate care.
Investigation
As officers continue their investigation into possible causes of the crash, a suspected cause has not been reported. Many accidents like this one involve factors that motorcyclists have no control over, including phantom vehicles, defective motorcycle products, roadway issues, and more.
Phantom Vehicle Accidents
When a driver forces another vehicle into a dangerous situation, it often causes an accident. However, the reckless driver may have never made contact with the crashed vehicle. For instance, a driver may suddenly cut off a motorcyclist, causing that motorcyclist to swerve and crash. These cases are referred to as “phantom vehicle accidents.”
Phantom vehicle accidents are a lot like hit-and-runs because the at-fault driver often cannot be located and held responsible for damages. Because of this, people who’ve been injured in phantom vehicle accidents often worry about how they’ll be able to obtain compensation to cover their losses.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
If an at-fault party can’t be found, crash survivors may be able to claim payments through their own insurance company. Many policies include what is called “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” which can provide survivors with payments for medical expenses, lost income, and more. However, this coverage is optional in the state of CA and can vary depending on the specifics of your insurance policy.
Calling an Attorney
After being injured in a car accident, it is always important to reach out to a local Davis personal injury lawyer. By speaking with an experienced attorney about your situation, you can get the information you need to begin the process of claiming compensation for the damages you have suffered. By doing so, crash survivors can often obtain full payment for their losses.
