Motorcyclist Injured in Fresno County Hit and Run

A motorcyclist was injured and hospitalized after a hit and run accident in Fresno County, CA, on the morning of Monday, August 31, 2020. The injury incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brawley Avenue and Jensen Avenue. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that a vehicle rear-ended a motorcycle rider in the area, and the driver reportedly fled the scene afterward. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for immediate treatment. Investigators suspect that the vehicle involved in the hit and run was a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Additional information about the motorcycle crash was not immediately available.

Does Insurance Cover Hit and Run Motorcycle Crashes in Fresno County?

California law requires drivers to maintain liability insurance on their personal cars. The unfortunate reality is that many drivers in California are operating vehicles without insurance. When an individual has been hurt as a result of a motor vehicle accident with a driver with insufficient insurance or none at all, they are not necessarily out of luck. Fortunately, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM) may come into play in these situations. A claim for UIM may be filed under your own auto insurance policy if your personal injury damages exceed the policy limits of the at-fault party’s coverage. A UM claim may be filed when it has been determined through an SR-19C form filed with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that the other driver does not have bodily injury liability coverage to pay for the accident and losses incurred. Claims for UM may also be brought in cases of hit and run accidents if the at-fault party is not located. To learn more about uninsured motorist claims, watch the video below.
