A head-on collision on SR-132 killed a motorcyclist and seriously injured their passenger on the night of Friday, July 2, 2021. The motorcycle accident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on eastbound State Route 132 near Albers Road, just east of the city of Modesto.
Details on the SR-132 Head-On Collision That Claimed the Life of a Motorcyclist
A report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) revealed that a 26-year-old Modesto woman was driving a 2014 GMC westbound on Highway 132. She reportedly veered into the oncoming traffic lane to overtake slower traffic. The GMC allegedly collided head-on with a Harley Davidson motorcycle carrying two occupants.
The Modesto woman sustained injuries described as minor in the wreck. The impact of the collision reportedly propelled the motorcycle rider and his passenger off the bike during the accident. The passenger, a 45-year-old Waterford woman, was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries. Sadly, the motorcyclist, a 50-year-old Waterford man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. CHP traffic officers indicated that no arrest has been made, but the incident is under investigation.
What Survivors Should Know About Wrongful Death Motorcycle Accident Cases
The damages from a fatal motorcycle accident may put the future of surviving family members at risk. Recovering from the situation may be challenging, leaving survivors unsure of how to pick up the pieces from unforeseen life changes and expenses. When a loved one did not cause the incident, their family does not deserve to handle the situation, let alone not receive the justice and fair compensation they deserve. An experienced Modesto wrongful death attorney can ensure that survivors receive the financial recovery they need while allowing them the time they need to get their lives back on track.
While surviving family members would like to think that insurance companies are there to make things easier after losing a close relative, that is not always the case. Dealing with insurers can be as overwhelming and devastating as the fatal incident itself was. The reason is that insurance carriers are in the business of paying as little as possible on claims as a way of protecting their bottom line. This may put the family at a significant loss.
This is one of the many reasons why it is essential to work with an attorney. A lawyer can build a strong and compelling wrongful death case that demonstrates liability on the part of the negligent driver or entity and resulting damages. In any case, evidence is necessary for establishing negligence and losses incurred, and collecting and preserving it is crucial after a fatal incident. When you retain an attorney, they will handle all aspects of your case so your family can focus on recovering instead of the challenging legal process. Benefits of Working with an Experienced Attorney
Surviving family members should know that in California, they only have two years to bring a wrongful death lawsuit. This time limit is known as the statute of limitations. If you are considering legal action but unsure of how to proceed, contact a skilled attorney in your area. A lawyer will build a strong case for compensation on your behalf for losses incurred, including medical bills, funeral expenses, lost future financial support, loss of companionship, and more. Working with an attorney is also essential in ensuring all filing deadlines and criteria in the case are met.
