Motorcyclist Killed in Modesto Area Crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on a busy road in the Modesto area on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 20, 2021. The motorcycle collision occurred at the intersection of Whitcomb Way and Sisk Road around 4:45 p.m.

Details on the Modesto Area Crash That Claimed the Life of a Motorcyclist

Full details on the incident were not immediately available by the Modesto Police Department (Modesto PD). However, initial reports indicated that a pickup truck was involved in a crash with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The identity of the motorcycle rider and the severity of their injuries were not disclosed. It was also unclear whether other parties in the pickup truck were injured. Photos at the scene showed major damage to the motorcycle and front-end damage to the pickup.

An update following the crash revealed that the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries during hospitalization. Officials with Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office listed the decedent’s name as Carlos Chavez, 28, of Ceres. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the Chavez family to help cover final resting expenses.

What Families Should Know About the Wrongful Death Claims Process

Recovering from losing a loved one in a motorcycle crash may be a life-altering experience. In some situations, the family is also impacted when mounting medical bills, lost income, and other challenges start to affect the daily routines of those related to the decedent. While knowing what to do after the collision may be challenging, it is essential that surviving family members consider retaining legal counsel to ensure that their rights and best interests are protected while they are grieving and healing from their loss.

After a motorcycle collision, insurance adjusters may contact survivors to ask for a recorded statement or to make a quick initial settlement offer. In other situations, insurers may try to limit financial liability for the incident by claiming pre-existing conditions were responsible for final injuries that the motorcycle rider may have suffered or by placing blame on the motorcyclist in that they were partially at fault. These are some of the many defense tactics that insurers use to invalidate the claim or lower its value. This is because the insurance company is focused on protecting its bottom line and will do anything to pay out as little as what may be negotiated.

As with any wrongful death claim, the outcome of the case will depend on the facts and circumstances of the crash, how the incident has impacted the family and the damages that have resulted. Navigating the claims process may be overwhelming, especially if you are unsure of how to proceed. Working with a Modesto accident attorney who is experienced in dealing with difficult insurers, defense counsel, and the defense tactics they use is essential. An attorney will work to seek fair compensation from those responsible for the crash. To learn what to look for in the best lawyer to handle your motorcycle accident case, watch this video.
