Motorcycle Versus Auto Collision
Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a call of a motorcycle versus auto collision along Laguna Park Drive south of Laguna Boulevard around 11:15 a.m.
The crash occurred as the motorcyclist, described as a 36-year-old male, was traveling southbound along Laguna Park Drive. The motorcyclist was struck by a car proceeding in the opposite direction and making a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. The car was pulling into a parking lot located at Taco Bell.
Common Causes of Motorcycle Versus Car Crashes
One of the most common types of auto versus motorcycle accidents happens when a car is making a left-hand turn. Often times, the driver of the car either fails to see the motorcyclist at all or judges the distance and speed of the motorcyclist incorrectly. Left-hand turn crashes happen when a motorcyclist is trying to:
• Ride straight through an intersection
• Pass a car
• Overtake a car
In most left-hand turn crashes, the driver of the vehicle is found to be at fault. However, a motorcyclist can be deemed at fault if he or she was exceeding the speed limit and/or was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Driver of the Car That Struck the Motorcyclist
The driver of the car that struck the motorcyclist was described as a 29-year-old female. She was driving a four-door sedan carrying two occupants inside. The occupants were described as children.
Bystanders Rendered Aid to the Fallen Motorcyclist
Two bystanders rendered aid to the fallen motorcyclist while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive at the accident scene.
Motorcyclist Suffered Catastrophic Injuries
Sadly, the motorcyclist suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the collision with the sedan. He was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away.
The motorcyclist’s name has not yet been released.
Woman and Children in Sedan Report No Injuries
The woman and two children in the sedan were sent to a local hospital but did not report suffering any injuries.
What Caused The Collision Between the Motorcyclist and Sedan?
No cause has been identified at the time of this writing. An investigation of the crash is underway. The driver of the sedan was not arrested.
It typically takes up to ten days for authorities to investigate and prepare a traffic collision report with their findings. Sometimes the findings can be inconclusive or in error. This can leave the family and friends of the deceased with many unanswered questions as to exactly why their loved one passed away.
