U.S. Route 50 Crash Seriously Injures Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist suffered a major injury in a collision along U.S. Route 50 on February 1 in Sacramento. The crash happened just west of the 15th Street off-ramp at around 9:16 in the morning, as issued in a report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders were called to assess the motorcycle rider’s injuries and transport that person to a nearby hospital. It was not reported if other vehicles were involved in the crash. A tow truck was summoned to remove the motorcycle from the crash site, which had created a traffic hazard in the slow lane. The reason for the accident will be determined by an investigation being handled by the CHP.

Causes of Motorcycle Accidents with Major injury

While many motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle, external forces can contribute to a crash that is not the fault of the rider. If negligence is responsible for that outside force and causes an accident injury, the motorcyclist may be able to place a personal injury claim to cover their medical bills, lost time at work, and pain and suffering. Some of the ways a sole motorcycle rider can be injured that isn’t their fault are:

  • Another motorist can cut the motorcycle rider off and then flee the accident scene. This negligent action can cause the rider to either fall from the motorcycle or crash into another object or vehicle.
  • Having to swerve can cause the motorcycle rider to be in an accident. This can be caused by sudden traffic slow down, another vehicle changing lanes, or debris in the roadway.
  • Pavement that is wet or oily can lead to a motorcycle accident resulting in a major injury. Oily pavement may have been caused by a leak from a vehicle or tanker truck. Because motorcycles have only two wheels and are more sensitive to road changes, they are at a higher risk of collision if they ride over pavement that is wet or oily.
  • Potholes, sinkholes, and badly maintained pavement can lead to a major injury if the motorcyclist crashes. In cases such as these, the government agency that has the responsibility for the upkeep of the roadway can be held responsible.
  • Defective parts from bad installation, defective brakes or tires or problems with the fuel system can lead to a major injury in a motorcycle crash.

Seeking Help for Your Motorcycle Major Injury

A lawyer who has handled motorcycle crash cases may be able to help you get compensation to pay your lost wages, medical costs, and reimburse you for your pain and suffering. We send investigators to the site as soon as the accident occurs, and they check the police report for mistakes as well as talk to witnesses. The investigators search for nearby traffic surveillance and business cameras and perform accident reconstruction to show how the crash occurred. When all the information has been gathered, our lawyers go to work to build a case against the party that is at fault. This provides strong proof for them to negotiate with an insurance company or to present in civil court.

In the following video, Sacramento motorcycle accident lawyer Ed Smith explains why you should hire a lawyer following a collision:
