SR 160 Accident Blocks Traffic Due to Moving Truck Rollover
A moving truck rollover occurred in Sacramento on March 6, which spilled its load on the road. Arriving at the scene, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered the moving truck lying on its side. The accident occurred along northbound SR 160 at the off-ramp for Exposition Boulevard around 1:00 in the afternoon.
One Person Injured in Moving Truck Rollover
Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department, as well as a passing good Samaritan stopped to help two people out of the overturned rig along with a dog. One person was taken by the responders to a hospital with injuries described as minor. A tow truck was called to pull the big rig upright, and the wreckage from the spill had to be cleaned up.
Accidents With a Moving Truck
A moving truck rollover is only one of a number of accidents that can cause injuries to people in other vehicles sharing the road. Moving trucks come in two types, the ones that are owned by a company and those that are rented. Types of accidents caused by a moving truck include the following:
- Speeding: A moving truck doesn’t handle the same way a passenger vehicle does. Speeding easily leads to a moving truck rollover, which can cause them to crash into other vehicles.
- Not knowing when to slow down: Because a loaded truck is heavy, it’s necessary for the driver to exercise caution when going down a hill. If the driver does not proceed carefully, it can result in a moving truck rollover.
- Blind spots: Just as a big rig has large blind spots, so does a moving truck. An inexperienced driver can end up colliding with another vehicle from lack of experience.
- Poor loading: Loading a moving truck badly can cause it to become overbalanced, resulting in a rollover accident.
- Taking a corner too fast: Because of their much larger size, great caution has to be taken when going around a corner in a moving truck. It can cause the vehicle to become unbalanced or collide with a vehicle in the next lane.
Liability After a Moving Truck Accident
Liability in a moving truck depends on whether it is rented or a professional company. Although companies such as U-Haul, Ryder, and others generally cannot be found liable for accidents caused by someone who rented one of their vehicles, there are circumstances where it is possible.
For example, someone who is unlicensed should not be renting a vehicle. Neither should a driver who has obviously been drinking or is impaired. The driver of the rented vehicle, on the other hand, can be held legally responsible. Another circumstance where the company may be liable is if the moving truck has bad brakes or other equipment failure because of lack of proper maintenance.
Professional Moving Companies
Circumstances are different if the accident involves a professional moving company. If the driver is negligent and causes accident injuries, placing a claim is probably possible. Consulting with a lawyer experienced in handling these types of collisions is important to obtain the compensation you deserve to pay your medical bills, lost wages and for your pain and suffering.
