Multi-Car Antioch Car Accident
I’m Ed Smith, an Antioch car accident lawyer. An Antioch car accident recently involved multiple vehicles and injured four people.
About the Accident
On 19 August, a silver sedan and a red hatchback car collided in the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Tregallas Road in Antioch. The accident also involved two other unidentified vehicles.
The multi-car accident sparked a large emergency response. The Antioch Police Department, the Contra Costa County Fire Department, American Medical Response (AMR) ambulances, and two tow truck companies all responded to the accident.
The accident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. and local residents reported that clean-up efforts went until well into the early morning hours.
About the Injuries
Witnesses reported that the accident injured at least four people. All injured people were in vehicles and no pedestrians were injured. Ambulances transported all four people to local hospitals. No additional information about their injuries were available at the time of this publication.
Cause of the Accident
Authorities have not determined a cause of the accident at this time. Witnesses report that at least one driver failed to stop at a red light at the intersection. This allegedly caused the initial accident.
The two other vehicles then collided in the intersection with the initial accident. For unknown reasons, they were unable to avoid the accident. These cars did collide at a lower rate of speed, though, and as stated by witnesses, the drivers suffered only minor injuries.
It is important to acknowledge that witnesses are unreliable and that their reports are not definitive accounts of what really happened.
About Chain Reaction Car Accidents
For all intents and purposes, this accident appears to have been a chain reaction accident where one accident caused several other accidents. In scenarios such as this, the driver at fault for the initial accident is typically at fault for the successive injuries.
However, because all drivers on the road have a duty to avoid accidents, if the other drivers involved were also negligent, they may share in some of the liability.
About Failure to Yield
This accident also involved at least one driver failing to yield to the vehicle with the right of way. This is fairly common in intersections, especially late in the evening. Drivers will often run red lights as they attempt to get home faster on seemingly empty roads.
