Crash on Eastbound I-80 Near Marysville and Raley Boulevards
A multiple-vehicle crash was reported in Sacramento on the evening of June 10, which resulted in a number of injuries. The accident happened along eastbound Interstate 80 near Marysville and Raley boulevards at around 10:15 p.m. Traffic was backed up for around two miles to Norwood Avenue, although one lane remained open, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Multiple injuries were reported. However, the number of injured persons and the severity of their injuries was not. An investigation by the CHP will determine the cause of the multiple-vehicle crash and assign fault.
Complexities of a Multiple-Vehicle Crash
The cause of a multiple-vehicle crash may be the fault of one driver or can involve others, especially when the collision occurs on a freeway. Higher speeds and heavy traffic make it more difficult for a motorist to maneuver or stop without being involved in a collision. In most cases, more than one driver in a multiple-vehicle crash is at fault. Some of the reasons for such crashes include:
- Speeding: Driving too fast makes it more difficult to stop and increases the distance needed.
- Distracted driving: A driver who is texting, reaching for a water bottle or adjusting the radio station may not see traffic slow down until it is too late.
- Tailgating: This is an obvious reason for a traffic accident if the vehicle ahead suddenly slows down.
- Careless lane changes: Attempting to change lanes without looking or timing it incorrectly can cause a multiple-vehicle crash.
- Drunk driving: Drunk drivers are responsible for a large number of serious injuries and fatalities every year.
- Fatigued driving: Those who are too tired to be driving can start daydreaming or even fall asleep, a sure recipe for disaster on the highway.
A lawyer experienced in handling accidents involving multiple vehicles can help a client get compensation for the medical costs, pain and suffering, and lost wages. Over the years, my office has handled many of these accidents and has a good track record of winning fair compensation. We strongly believe that no one should have to face financial loss when a negligent person or entity caused harm to them.
How an Accident Investigation is Conducted
The collection of evidence is important to uphold a claim for accident injury compensation. Some of the ways in which our investigators accomplish this is as follows:
- The sooner the investigators get to the accident site, the better before evidence is lost when traffic starts up again.
- Once they arrive, the investigators interview witnesses and those who were in the accident. They also review the police report to ensure there are no mistakes.
- Accident reconstruction is performed. This is the best way to determine what vehicle/vehicles were at fault in the collision. This type of evidence is widely used both in civil court and in negotiating with the insurance company.
- The investigators look for real-time footage of the accident from nearby businesses and traffic surveillance cameras.
- They photograph the involved vehicles, which is a record of where the cars were struck and residue such as paint can be tied in to demonstrate how the multiple-vehicle crash occurred.
- The investigators search for road damage that may have contributed to the crash, such as missing signs, poor lighting, potholes and roadway markers that aren’t clear.
The evidence, when it’s been compiled, is given over to our lawyers to build a case for damages. It can be used either when seeking fair compensation with the insurance company or preparing a court case.
