Car Goes Off the Highway in Sacramento Multiple-Vehicle Injury Accident
A traffic crash involving multiple vehicles occurred on the morning of June 29 along State Route 51 in Sacramento. The accident happened shortly before 7:00 in the morning just north of the E Street exit ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and resulted in at least one injury. It involved a Ford Mustang, Chevy Malibu, Lexus, and white pickup. Three of the vehicles ended up on the right-hand side of the highway. However, one went down an embankment about 150 feet and crashed into a fence. The CHP reported that at least one person was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Highway Multiple-Vehicle Traffic Crash
A multiple-vehicle traffic crash is especially dangerous for a number of reasons. A primary reason such crashes are common is that drivers are unable to move out of the way. This is due to the congestion on most high-speed highways around the city. Sometimes, one driver will attempt to move into an adjacent lane to avoid a collision, resulting in another accident.
Loss of Safety Device Protection
In a multiple-vehicle traffic crash, each individual vehicle can be struck multiple times. This raises the risk of serious injuries due to the lack of safety devices such as airbags. Once an airbag deploys, it does not deploy again. So, when a vehicle is hit numerous times, all subsequent impacts beyond the first will not be cushioned. This leaves the occupants of the vehicle vulnerable to injury.
Run-Off Road Accidents
Run-off road accidents occur when a car or truck leaves the road and crashes into an obstacle. When a steep embankment is adjacent to the shoulder of the road, the vehicle may descend a considerable distance before crashing. This also sets the stage for a rollover accident.
Rollovers in a Multiple-Vehicle Traffic Crash
Rollovers are extremely dangerous as many people find themselves ejected from the vehicle, especially when they are not wearing a seatbelt. Another aspect of a rollover accident is called a crushed roof and can cause significant traumatic injuries. This occurs when the infrastructure of the vehicle is unable to support the weight of the car or truck. In such instances, the occupants are often trapped inside and suffer head and neck injuries.
Crushed Roof Accidents and Manufacturer Negligence
Crushed roof accidents are commonly due to manufacturer negligence and because of that, the injured individual can reclaim damages by filing a product liability lawsuit. In California, it is not necessary to prove negligence. Instead, your personal injury lawyer will need to show that your injuries are due to a mistake when the vehicle was designed or built. It is crucial to preserve your wrecked vehicle after a rollover so your lawyer can use it as evidence. In addition, it must be shown that the vehicle was being used in the way it was intended.
Investigating a Sacramento Traffic Crash
At our law firm, we send our investigative team to the accident site to look for evidence of liability. They do this by interviewing witnesses who provide their view of how the accident occurred. The investigators also review the police report for mistakes as well as obtain videos of the traffic crash. We use accident reconstruction techniques to determine how and why the crash occurred.
Once the information is compiled, the investigators turn the data over to our lawyers, who use it to build a strong case for our client.
