Napa Area Crash Leaves One Fatally Injured
Officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that an area accident cost one man his life on Monday, August 19, 2019. The collision happened on just outside of Napa County off of Highway 12 and involved a single vehicle. Officials have since identified the decedent as Gerick Raju, a 50-year-old man from Sonoma. Raju was reportedly the only person injured during the accident and CHP has stated that they are actively investigating possible causes of the collision.
Crash Information
According to reports, the collision happened in the very early morning at around 12:20 a.m. Raju had been driving in a silver-colored Nissan Rogue on Napa Road close to the intersection of 8th street on the outskirts of Sonoma. The Nissan reportedly drifted off of the roadway for unknown reasons, eventually colliding with a mailbox and a trashcan before traveling into a nearby drainage ditch and striking a concrete culvert. No other vehicles were reported to have been a part of the crash.
Response
Responders were immediately sent to the crash scene in order to provide aid. When officials reached the location of the collision, they discovered Raju had suffered critical injuries. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Raju tragically lost his life on-scene at 12:39 a.m.
Investigation
As CHP continues to investigate this crash, officers have indicated that driver intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the accident. Single-vehicle collisions are liable to be caused by a variety of factors that are often not under the control of drivers, including faulty vehicle parts, poor roadway maintenance, and other hazards.
Sadly, fatal accidents often mean that drivers are unable to give investigators their version of what caused the crash. This means that the real cause of the accident may go unnoticed and liable parties such as auto product manufacturers, hit-and-run drivers, or others may not be held responsible for the damages they have caused. For this reason, it’s important to get in touch with an attorney who can conduct a private investigation into the collision and represent the interests of the decedent and their loved ones.
Recoverable Damages
A fatal accident is always a tragedy, and it’s sadly impossible to truly make up for the loss of a person you love. However, families are often left in a difficult situation after deadly accidents and are not sure how they will be able to move one without the support of their loved one. In these cases, the families of decedents can pursue wrongful death claims in order to hold responsible parties financially accountable for their negligence. By pursuing a wrongful death claim, households are often able to recover money for serious losses such as lost income, medical expenses, pain and suffering, and more. To learn about what you might be able to recover after a tragic accident, get in touch with an experienced injury attorney in your area and talk about your case personally. Most lawyers will be happy to offer you the advice you need for free during a phone consultation.
