Napa CHP Searching for Driver After Fatal Cyclist Hit-and-Run
On June 10, 2020, authorities released the identity of a bicyclist who tragically lost his life during a hit-and-run accident on Highway 12 and reported that Napa area California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still searching for the missing driver. The decedent was identified by county officials as Adrian Albert, a 35-year-old man from the East Bay city of Kensington.
Incident Details
The accident occurred on Sunday, June 7, 2020, on Highway 12 in the area of Madrone Road at around 8:20 p.m. Albert was riding his bicycle, a 2016 Cannondale CAAD, eastbound along the side of the highway when he was approached from behind by a light-colored Dodge Dakota pickup truck. The pickup reportedly struck Albert from behind, throwing him off of his bike. After the crash, witnesses reported that the truck continued heading east without stopping.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Albert had suffered major trauma. Tragically, he lost his life at the accident location.
Investigation
Police were reportedly able to recover the missing pickup truck after receiving calls from residents of a neighborhood on the east side of Highway 12 in the area of Boyes Hot Springs. Callers reported seeing an unfamiliar truck with front-end damage. Officers located the abandoned vehicle in a neighborhood with narrow streets. However, the driver of the truck hasn’t been located and officers have asked for public assistance with their investigation.
Any accident witnesses or people with information about the whereabouts of the missing driver are encouraged to call Napa CHP at (707) 253-4906. Furthermore, CHP has reported that they are asking individuals who live in the neighborhood where the truck was found to provide them with any video footage taken by home security systems between the time of the accident and the location of the vehicle.
Contacting an Attorney
Families suffering through the loss of a loved one during a vehicle accident are typically experiencing a lot of pain and can feel totally overwhelmed. Grieving families should do everything they can to take care of themselves in this troubling time and can often get help by relying on the support of their friends, family, and community.
However, a fatal crash can also cause serious financial problems. In many cases, the decedent was the main income earner in the family or contributed valuable services to their household. Furthermore, families can be left with medical expenses for care given before their loved one passed away. To make sure you and your family receive fair compensation for these losses, it’s critical that you call a Napa personal injury lawyer who has plenty of experience with wrongful death cases.
Hit-and-Runs and Compensation
When a driver can’t be found after an accident, it’s not possible to hold them financially responsible. However, families may still be able to claim compensation. This can be accomplished by using a part of your own insurance policy called “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” Importantly, this coverage isn’t a part of every policy, and it’s important to speak with a trustworthy, compassionate attorney before dealing with your insurer.
