Napa County Car Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. On Sunday, April 22, 2017, a Napa County car accident that involved four vehicles resulted in the injuries of six individuals. Some of the injuries hospitalized the individuals and at least one of them was reported to have suffered traumatic injuries.
Accident Details
California Highway Patrol (CHP) told reporters that the accident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on Highway 128 near the intersection of Chiles Pope Valley Road in St. Helena. An 18-year old resident of Healdsburg and Senior at Analy High School had been driving a 1998 Porsche Targa westbound on the highway when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle and drove into the eastbound lane.
The Porsche struck a 2017 Ford Explorer, driven by a 38-year old resident of Yuba City who was driving with his family, which included his wife and two young children aged 3 and 6. The collision completely destroyed the Porsche, which soon caught fire, according to CHP. After these two vehicles collided and came to a stop, two motorcyclists were unable to avoid the wreck and became involved in the crash as well.
Injuries
The children in the Ford Explorer, thankfully, only suffered minor injuries and were transported with their father, who had suffered minor injuries as well, to the Napa hospital for treatment. The children’s 33-year-old mother and passenger of the Explorer, however, suffered traumatic injuries and was taken to the Queen of the Valley hospital. All four had been released from medical care as of Monday night. The exact nature of their injuries has not been reported.
The driver of the Porsche, as well as the single passenger, both suffered major injuries as a result of the accident. The passenger, a 20-year-old Healdsburg resident and friend of the driver, was flown by helicopter to Queen of the Valley Hospital in critical condition. The driver was also transported by helicopter to the Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa and was reported to be in serious condition. There is no further information available on the condition of either occupant of the Porsche, except that the driver is expected to recover from his injuries.
Neither of the motorcyclists were injured in the collision.
What Caused the Collision?
CHP officers have indicated that they believe that the driver of the Porsche lost control of his vehicle as a result of driving over the speed limit. Although the exact speed that the Porsche was going is unknown, officers suspect that it was going well over 55 mile per hour speed limit. CHP noted that the Explorer, on the other hand, had been driving at only 40 miles per hour.
