Napa County Truck Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Napa truck accident lawyer. On Monday, June 19, 2017, a truck accident near the Napa-Sonoma county line caused major traffic and lane closures and may have involved traumatic injuries.
Accident Details
The truck accident was first reported at 8:30 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call indicating that a large commercial truck had jack-knifed on Dry Creek Road between the intersections of Wall and Trinity Roads.
According to the CHP, the accident happened while the large truck was driving along a particularly steep portion of the roadway with sharp hairpin turns. The truck reportedly entered a turn close to the peak of the mountain road that was too sharp, causing the trailer of the vehicle to collide with the cab.
A Dangerous Road for Trucks
Signs along the roadway warn drivers of big-rig trucks and other large vehicles that it is not legal to drive on the road due to these dangerous conditions. However, GPS-based direction apps often show the route as the fastest mode of travel between Napa and Sonoma county.
According to local newspapers, trucks often end up crashed on the sharp turns of this roadway. These collisions often force residents, tourists, and sometimes emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks, to take slower alternative routes.
Traffic
According to authorities, the incident blocked both lanes of the roadway and that Trinity Road is closed near Wall Road. Additionally, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire reported that there is no access to Oakville Grade or Dry Creek Road. These traffic blocks are expected to last at least four hours. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has suggested that they may even last into the late evening.
Authorities are considering diverting traffic along Highway 12 so that motorists will not get stuck on Trinity Road.
Injuries
Authorities have not yet reported whether or not there were any major injuries involved in the accident, although witnesses of the crash have reported that it seemed severe and indicated that traumatic injuries certainly may have been sustained.
No further details have been reported so far.
Big Rig Collisions
Because of the sheer size of big rig vehicles, accidents have the potential to be disastrous. To add to the trouble, the companies that own these vehicles usually have legal teams ready to begin reducing their liability to pay for damages. If one is involved in a collision with a large commercial truck, calling a lawyer can be vital in preventing trucking companies from covering up important evidence
