Napa Pedestrian Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run

Napa Pedestrian Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. A 9-year-old boy and resident of Napa suffered serious injuries as the result of a hit-and-run collision that occurred in Napa on Thursday, April 5, 2018. Officers of the Napa Police Department (NPD) reported that the collision happened at about 4:35 p.m. According to NPD officer Sgt. Ryan Cole, a caller notified officers that a crash had occurred on the 1700 block of Pueblo Avenue. An NPD traffic reconstruction team investigating the accident site reported that a Ford Explorer had been traveling eastbound on Pueblo Avenue when it collided with the boy, who had been crossing the street from the northern to the southern sidewalk.

Serious Injuries

The boy was found by responders at the accident scene with serious injuries to his head and face, according to NPD Sgt. Kristofer Jenny. The boy was initially transported by ground ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center but was later taken by helicopter to a larger regional medical center for further treatment.

No updates on the boy’s condition have been released publicly as of yet. I would like to express my sympathy to the victim and wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Hit-and-Run

After striking the boy, the Explorer drove away from the accident scene. A witness to the accident shared a picture of the vehicle that they had taken on their phone with responding police officers who were able to identify the vehicle and its license plate number.

Officers tracked the vehicle to the home of its owner, a 28-year-old Napa resident, and arrested the alleged driver on the spot at approximately 5:01 p.m. in the area of 100 Morgan Lane. Officers detained the man and subsequently booked him into Napa County Jail on a felony charge of hit-and-run causing injury and a misdemeanor charge of driving a vehicle without a proper license.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Injuries sustained to the head are complex and can result in a wide variety of physical and emotional symptoms. In some cases, head injuries can leave individuals with a lasting trauma that affects them for the rest of their lives. Chronic symptoms liable to affect patients with brain injuries include loss of smell, paralysis, mood swings, memory loss, difficulty with language, and more.
