Napa Truck Collision Injures Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa personal injury lawyer. On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, a woman from Napa received traumatic injuries as the result of a collision with a big-rig truck in Napa County.

Accident Details

According to preliminary reports from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at around 11:20 a.m. on Green Island Road close to the north side of American Canyon. The woman had reportedly been driving a red Nissan pickup truck when she accelerated her vehicle too much and collided with the rear end of a large tractor-trailer.

Injuries

When emergency medical responders arrived at the scene of the collision, they found that the woman and her passenger were trapped in the twisted metal of the pickup truck. After extricating both of the individuals, responders found that the driver had sustained traumatic injuries to her leg as well as internal injuries and described the injuries as moderate to severe. The woman was transported immediately by ambulance to the nearest hospital in order to receive treatment.

The passenger of the pickup, as well as the driver of the big rig, were unharmed.

Amputation Injuries

Severe injuries to limbs can sometimes result in the loss of that limb. Amputation injuries can be very difficult to recover from and involve a multitude of costs including loss of wages, the cost of prosthetics, and more.

Big Rig Collisions

Accidents involving big rig trucks have the potential to be disastrous. Because the trucks are hauling so much weight and are so well protected, people traveling in smaller vehicles are often relatively vulnerable. Trucks are typically anywhere from twenty to thirty times heavier than passenger vehicles and are also taller and have more ground clearance, which can cause large trucks to override passenger vehicles in accidents.

Additionally, loaded tractor-trailers take about twenty to forty percent longer to come to a complete stop than regular passenger vehicles and the discrepancy is made greater on rainy roads or with trucks that have poorly maintained braking systems.

Necessity of Quick Action

Often, large trucking companies will be much more prepared in the event of an accident than a normal driver is. Trucking companies typically have teams that get to work immediately in order to mitigate the responsibility of their company in the eyes of courts and insurances adjusters. In the event of a collision with a big rig truck, calling a lawyer as soon as possible can be invaluable in preventing key evidence from being obscured.
